Jonathan Newkirk

Jonathan and his family have been members at the Journey since return from the mission field in 2003. He  has served on the leadership team for almost 8 years

Jonathan is a family practice physician in Osawatomie Kansas and had practiced there for over 33 years. He and his family  have also been involved in overseas missions, having served in Liberia and Tanzania. Their most recent overseas ministries has been in Tanzania where they served at Kigoma Baptist Hospital in Western Tanzania.  They worked as missionaries with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Church in this isolated mission hospital for almost 5 years. They also initiated mobile medical clinics to the surrounding unreached people groups in the area.

Jonathan was led to faith in Jesus Christ by his wife Carol in 1976 and immediately developed an insatiable appetite for God’s Word. He loves to memorize, meditate, preach and teach the Word of God and has always been active in teaching,  leading  small groups and discipling others. He and Carol share the same passion for God’s word and for missions.

Together they have 3 children, Samuel 25, Tucker 23, and Lydia 21.  One of Jonathan’s most joyous memories is seeing all three children commit to follow Jesus and having the opportunity to baptize all three of them at the same time in Lake Tanganyika in Kigoma.
